Tips/Motivation/Messages for First-Gen Students

Take advantage of all the resources available to you as an undergraduate. I struggled with College Algebra, for instance, and used the tutoring support to get through the class. Tutoring doesn't show up on your transcript, the A does! Same goes with the Career Center, ASAC and services such as the Office of Merit Awards. My engagement with the OMA changed my life as an undergraduate, which is part of the reason I work here now.

Anecdote

Being first-gen is difficult as an undergraduate, but there are loads of resources. It's even more baffling, I've found, as a graduate student. Check in with your mentors honestly and often for guidance.
